Early life
Brian was born Charlottetown, P.E.I., Canada in 1944.His parents moved to Toronto where his father was a professor of sculpture at the University of Toronto.
In 1952 his parents moved with their three boys to Pomona California where Brian grew up to the age of 16.
In 1960, Brian’s family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where he attended high school, leaving without graduating.
After working in sawmills, factories and on construction projects, Brian got a job on a Norwegian freighter out of Halifax, Nova Scotia and set off to see the world.
Over the next eight years, traveling and working and then traveling again, Brian visited more than 80 countries.
At the age of 21, with two friends and a Land Rover, he traveled from Gibraltar across the Sahara Desert and into West Africa.
He eventually arrived in Johannesburg and reached Cape Town, a distance of 17,000 miles traveled by land and water in less than one year.
Over the next five years, Brian traveled all over Africa, Europe, the Middle East, including Turkey and Iran, crossing Pakistan and India, traveling by ship across the Bay of Bengal and arriving in Singapore, a distance of more than 16,000 from his starting point in London.
Brian traveled and worked throughout South East Asia and then returned to Vancouver where he resupplied and set out in a used Land Rover for South America, eventually landing in Mexico City where he lived for more than a year.
When he could no longer find laboring jobs, he got into straight commission sales. After struggling for many months, he began asking for advice from the top salespeople around him, which they freely gave.
Within a year, he was a top salesperson himself, and eventually recruited and trained 95 salespeople in six countries.
He was only 25 years old.
When he returned from Mexico in 1970, Brian got his real estate license in Vancouver, British Columbia and became active in renting, leasing and selling commercial property. In 1975, he moved to Edmonton, Alberta where he single-handedly bought and built a three million dollar shopping center and sold it to a large real estate conglomerate, for which he then went to work.
By 1978, he was the COO of Patrician Land Corporation in Edmonton, a 265 million dollar real estate development company with properties all over western Canada.
When Patrician Land Corporation was purchased by Fidelity Investments, one of the biggest investment companies in Canada, Brian struck out on his own as a professional business speaker and trainer, in 1981.
After a slow start due to the 1981 – 1982 recessions, Brian’s seminars began to attract hundreds and eventually thousands of attendees.
Brian’s goal is to help individuals and businesses achieve personal and business goals faster and easier than ever imagined.
His audio programs on success and achievement became the best selling audio programs in the world in multiple languages.
His video based training programs, based on his live seminars, were eventually translated into 28 languages and have been attended by more than one million people worldwide – throughout Europe, Asia, the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
Brian Tracy has consulted for more than 1,000 large companies and has addressed more than five million people in 61 countries worldwide.
As a Keynote speaker and seminar leader, he addresses more than 250,000 people each year in both long and short seminars and workshops.
