Jennifer Siebel Newsom~ "Speaks a Truth that Goes Unnoticed Daily"

Uploaded on Dec 11, 2011

Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a filmmaker, actress, spokesperson and advocate.

She talks about how the media shapes our perceptions about gender and about our potential, calling on women and men to challenge the media and its male-dominated discourse, while empowering women to take on leadership positions.

TEDxWomen was curated and produced by The Paley Center for Media.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.

The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations).

Earl Nightingale (March 12, 1921 – March 28, 1989) was an American motivational speaker and author, known as the "Dean of Personal Development."[1]

He was the voice in the early 1950s of Sky King, the hero of a radio adventure series, and was a WGN radio show host from 1950 to 1956.[2]

Nightingale was the author of the Strangest Secret, which economist Terry Savage has called “…One of the great motivational books of all time“.[3]

Career

After the war Nightingale began work in the radio industry, which eventually led to work as a motivational speaker. In the fall of 1949, Nightingale was inspired while reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.[5]

Quoting from the Earl Nightingale official website: "When he was 29, Earl's enlightenment had come to him as a bolt out of the blue while reading, 'Think and Grow Rich'.

It came when he realized that the six words he read were the answer to the question he had been looking for!

That, 'we become what we think about'. He realized that he had been reading the same truth over and over again, from the New Testament...to the works of Emerson.

'We become what we think about.' 'As ye sow, so shall ye reap...'" [6]

In 1956 he produced a spoken word record, The Strangest Secret, which sold over a million copies, making it the first spoken-word recording to achieve Gold Record status. [7] [8]

In 1960, a condensed audio version of Think and Grow Rich was narrated by Nightingale. It was titled Think and Grow Rich: The Essence Of The Immortal Book By Napoleon Hill, Narrated by Earl Nightingale, produced by Success Motivation Institute. Also in 1960, he co-founded the Nightingale-Conant corporation with Lloyd Conant.[9]

Nightingale’s radio program, Our Changing World, became the most highly syndicated radio program ever, and was heard across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa, the Bahamas, 23 countries overseas, as well as the Armed Forces Network.

After his retirement, Nightingale and his wife, Diana formed Keys Publishing.

Earl Nightingale~ "The Strangest Secret in the World"

Uploaded on Feb 26, 2008

Words of wisdom from the great Earl Nightingale.

Biography

He was born in Los Angeles in 1921. His father Earl the 4th, abandoned his mother in 1933. After his father left his mother moved the family to a tent in Tent City.

When Nightingale was seventeen he joined the United States Marines.

He was on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor and was one of twelve surviving Marines on board that day.[4] Before being mustered, Nightingale was an instructor at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Career

After the war Nightingale began work in the radio industry, which eventually led to work as a motivational speaker. In the fall of 1949, Nightingale was inspired while reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.[5]

Recognition

He won a gold record for the LP The Strangest Secret

In 1976, he won the Golden Gavel Award from Toastmasters International [10]

He was inducted into the National Speakers Association Speaker Hall of Fame.[11]

In 1985, Nightingale was inducted into The Association of National Broadcasters National Radio Hall of Fame.[12]

In the mid-eighties, Nightingale wrote his first book, Earl Nightingale’s Greatest Discovery for which he received the Napoleon Hill Gold Medal for Literary Excellency.

Just prior to his death in 1989, Nightingale created a new format for a book called The Winner’s Notebook. It included his text, his illustrations, and incorporated space for a private journal.

Les Brown~ "Fear Is False Evidence Appearing Real!"

Leslie C. "Les" Brown (born February 17, 1945) is a motivational speaker, former Ohio politician, popular author, radio DJ, and former host of The Les Brown Show. As a politician, he is a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives.[1] As a motivational speaker, he uses the catch phrase, "It's possible," and teaches people to follow their dreams as he learned to do.[2]

from the 29th district
In office
January 3, 1977 – January 3, 1983
Preceded by William Kopp
Succeeded by Ray Miller
Personal details
Political party Democratic

Early life

Les Brown was born with his twin brother Wesley on February 17, 1945 in a low-income section of Miami, Florida in an abandoned building.

He was subsequently given up for adoption and adopted by Mamie Brown, a then 38-year-old single woman who worked as a cafeteria attendant and domestic assistant.

He was declared "educably mentally retarded" while in grade school. Despite the obvious self-esteem issues this created, with the encouragement of his mother and assistance by a helpful teacher in high school, he learned how to reach his full potential, a key point in many motivational speeches he gives now.

Professional Life

As derived from many of Brown's speeches, he first decided to get into public radio and kept returning to the same radio station time and time again looking for a break, and it wasn't until the on-air failures of the afternoon DJ that he took his break in radio into his own hands and was hired full-time as on-air talent.

Upon his termination from the radio station, he ran for election in the Ohio House of Representatives and won.

After leaving the Ohio state legislature, he decided to get into television and eventually ended up on PBS.

He also formed Les Brown Enterprises in order to support his newest career as a motivational speaker and is now also on KFWB in California on a daily syndicated radio program.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he also won many local and national awards for excellence and he has an Emmy to his name.

In 1993, he began hosting a new talk show, The Les Brown Show, which began airing on September 6, 1993.

After nearly four months, it went on hiatus on December 3, 1993,[3] and on January 17, 1994, King World Productions replaced this with Rolonda, a show hosted by Rolonda Watts.[4]

Justis Chase~ "The Secret to Making Money" [By Starting a Small Business]

Uploaded on Apr 26, 2011

The Secret to Making Money~ by Starting a Small Business

A great Seminar on how to get a business going without having to spend a lot of money. Justis talks about how its possible to use what he calls the three "S's" to create successful small businesses that do what you want them to do...in other words make you money and give you freedom rather than taking money and time away from you.

This 38 minute program is a great primer on how to start any business and make it a success.

http://www.homebusinesswhisperer.com

A bit about Justis and his methods:

Starting his first business at 16 Justis quickly learned that conventional business start-ups and marketing methods fail most of the time and that if he was to create a successful home business he had to do something radically different.

Experimenting using his own money he was able to create a new way of doing business that enabled him to turn a $500 investment into a $3.5 million dollar business in less than a year.

He then went on to teach others his techniques; people who were able to turn kitchen table businesses started for a few dollars into ongoing money making businesses that could be as large or as small as the owner wanted.

Detroit, Michigan USA
Residence Maui, Hawaii
Occupation Teacher, Author
Influenced by Abraham Maslow
Spouse(s) Divorced

Wayne Walter Dyer (born May 10, 1940) is an American self-help author and motivational speaker.

Early life and education

Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Melvin Lyle and Hazel Irene Dyer and spent much of his adolescence in an orphanage on the east side of Detroit.[1] After graduation from Denby High School Dyer served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He received his D.Ed. degree in counseling from Wayne State University.[2]

Career

Dyer worked as a high school guidance counselor in Detroit and as a professor of counselor education at St. John's University in New York City.[1]

He pursued an academic career, published in journals and established a private therapy practice. His lectures at St. John's, which focused on positive thinking and motivational speaking techniques, attracted many students.

A literary agent persuaded Dyer to document his theories in his first book called Your Erroneous Zones. Dyer quit his teaching job and began a publicity tour of the United States of America, doggedly pursuing bookstore appearances and media interviews ("out of the back of his station wagon", according to Michael Korda, making the best-seller lists "before book publishers even noticed what was happening"[3]), which eventually led to national television talk show appearances including Merv Griffin, The Tonight Show, and Phil Donahue.[1]

Dyer proceeded to build on his success with lecture tours, a series of audiotapes, and regular publication of new books. Dyer's message resonated with many in the New Thought Movement and beyond. He often recounted anecdotes from his family life, and repeatedly used his own life experience as an example. His self-made man success story was a part of his appeal.[1]

Dyer told readers to pursue self actualization, calling reliance on the self as a guide to "religious" experience, and suggested that readers emulate Jesus Christ, whom he termed both an example of a self-actualized person, and a "preacher of self-reliance".[4]

Dyer criticized societal focus on guilt, which he saw as an unhealthy immobilization in the present due to actions taken in the past. He advocated readers to see how parents, institutions, and even they, themselves, have imposed guilt trips upon themselves.[5]

Although Dyer initially resisted the spiritual tag, by the 1990s he had altered his message to include more components of spirituality when he wrote the book Real Magic, and discussed higher consciousness, in the book Your Sacred Self.[1][6]

Tony Robbins~ "Problem Solving Questions" The Art of Happiness

http://www.tonyrobbins.com

Tony Robbins says that thinking is a process of asking and answering questions.

He stresses the importance of asking the right questions to get the right answers and therefore the right results.

For over 30 years, Anthony Robbins has dedicated his life to modeling the most successful people in the world.

Problem solving consists in using generic or ad hoc methods, in an orderly manner, for finding solutions to problems.

Some of the problem-solving techniques developed and used in artificial intelligence, computer science, engineering, mathematics, medicine, etc. are related to mental problem-solving techniques studied in psychology.

Definition

The term problem solving is used in many disciplines, sometimes with different perspectives, and often with different terminologies.

For instance, it is a mental process in psychology and a computerized process in computer science.

Tony Robbins (born Anthony J. Mahavoric; February 29, 1960) is an American motivational speaker,[1] personal finance instructor, and self-help author.

He became well known from his infomercials and self-help books: Unlimited Power, Unleash the Power Within and Awaken the Giant Within.

In 2007, he was named in Forbes magazine's "Celebrity 100" list.[2]

Forbes estimated that Robbins earned approximately US$30 million in that year.[3]

Motivational speaker
Actor

Sage Robbins (m. 2001)

Early life

Robbins was born Anthony J. Mahavoric in North Hollywood, California, on February 29, 1960.[4]

Robbins is the eldest of three children and his parents divorced when he was 7.

His mother then had a series of husbands, including Jim Robbins, a former semiprofessional baseball player who legally adopted Anthony when he was 12.

His father could not provide for their family, so he left them.

His mother started abusing alcohol and prescription drugs sometime after. While growing up, Robbins was a primary care-giver, and helped provide for his siblings.

Robbins was raised in Azusa and Glendora, California, and attended Glendora High School.

He was elected student body president in his senior year, and grew 10 inches in high school, a growth spurt later attributed to a pituitary tumor.

He has said his home life was "chaotic" and "abusive".

When he was 17 years old, Robbins' mother chased him out of the house with a knife, and he never returned.[4]

Robbins later worked as a janitor, and did not attend college.[4]

Career

Robbins began his career promoting seminars for Jim Rohn.[5]

Later, Robbins began his own work as a self-help coach.

He taught neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and Ericksonian hypnosis after training with NLP co-founder John Grinder[citation needed].

In 1983, Robbins learned to firewalk and began to incorporate it into his seminars.[6]

Robbins' use of board breaking, skydiving, and later firewalking in his seminars is intended to help participants learn to push through their fears.[7]

Robbins promoted his services as a "peak performance coach" through his books and TV infomercials.

His first infomercial, Personal Power, was released in 1988 and produced by Guthy Renker.[8] Early infomercials featured celebrities such as Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton and actor Martin Sheen.[9]

By 1991, an estimated 100 million Americans in 200 media markets had viewed his infomercials.[9]
In 1997, Robbins began the Leadership Academy seminar.[10]

Robbins is a featured speaker on the seminar circuit sponsored by Learning Annex. Robbins appeared as a featured speaker at the 2007 Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) conference.

As of August 2012, his talk was the sixth-most popular TED talk.[11]

Robbins is involved with the Robbins-Madanes Center for Strategic Intervention, which focuses on personal, family, and organizational psychology, and claims to help people "find breakthrough strategies and solutions for overcoming the problems that confront us all."[12]

In 2014, Robbins along with a group investors including Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Peter Guber, acquired rights to launch a Major League Soccer franchise in Los Angeles, California.

The soccer team is scheduled to begin competition in 2017.[citation needed]

Authorship

Robbins has written three best-selling books: Unlimited Power, Awaken the Giant Within, and Money: Master the Game.

Unlimited Power, published in 1986, discusses the topics of health and energy, overcoming fears, persuasive communication, and enhancing relationships.[13]

In the book, Robbins argues that by using neuro-linguistic programming "anyone can become successful at almost anything."[14]

According to Magill Book Reviews, Robbins develops "a systematic framework for directing our own brain."[15]

Awaken the Giant Within, published in 1991, according to The New York Times, the book contains "ways to take control of your emotional, physical and financial destiny."[16]

In 1994, Robbins published Giant Steps, a daily instructional book, in a pocket size. His' third best-seller, Money: Master the Game, was published in 2014, reached number one on the New York Times' "Advice, How-To, & Miscellaneous" bestseller list in December 2014, and went on to sell a million copies in its first year.[17][18]

The book contains information stemming from his interviews with over 50 financial experts.[19][20]

According to Forbes Magazine, the book's target audience is both beginning and experienced investors.

Forbes wrote on his blog, "Remarkably, Robbins has produced a book that will appeal to both the beginner and the most sophisticated money jockey overseeing multi-billions of dollars in assets."[21]

Philanthropy

In 1991, Robbins founded the Anthony Robbins Foundation, a charity dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations.[22]

According to the foundation, it has products and programs in more than 2,000 schools, 700 prisons, and 100,000 health and human service organizations.[23]

Independent charity watchdog Charity Navigator gives the Anthony Robbins Foundation a rating of four out of four stars.[23]

One of his foundation's programs is the International Basket Brigade, in which groups of volunteers across the world assemble and deliver baskets of food and household items to needy families.[22]

The International Basket Brigade gives baskets of food and household items to about two million people each year.[24]

In 2014, he partnered with Feeding America for the 100 Millions Meals Challenge, by donating the profits of his book, Money: Master the Game, along with an additional personal donation to feed 50 million needy people. He also invited the public to match his 50 million meals.[19]

Controversies

In May 1995, Robbins Research International (RRI) responded to Federal Trade Commission charges of misrepresentation of potential earnings to franchise investors.

RRI and the FTC entered into a stipulated settlement agreement, in which RRI agreed to pay US$221,260 in consumer redress. RRI did not admit guilt under the settlement.[25]

Financial seminar guru Wade Cook also sued Robbins for copyright infringement and plagiarism, alleging that Robbins used proprietary terms in his seminars and from Cook's book Wall Street Money Machine.

In 1998, a Tacoma, Washington, jury ordered Robbins to pay Cook $650,900 in damages. The order to pay damages was temporarily withdrawn[26] until 2000, when the 9th Circuit Court ruled that the trial judge had misinterpreted the statutes.

The verdict and damages were reinstated with a statement that "The Court found that U.S. District Court Judge, Jack Tanner, erred in "finding a conclusion contrary to the jury award" and sent instructions to reinstate the award. Robbins was forced to pay the entire amount.[27][28]

One chapter of Unlimited Power, called "Energy: The Fuel of Excellence", is dedicated to a discussion of health and energy.

The National Council Against Health Fraud wrote a highly critical review of the chapter.[29][30]

In 2001, Robbins filed a lawsuit against The Vancouver Sun newspaper, alleging defamation and libel.

The judge determined the Vancouver Sun defamed Robbins when it called him a "adulterous, wife-stealing hypocrite".

Awarding Robbins $20,000 in damages, the judge wrote "While damages are presumed, the plaintiff's failure to take the witness stand and to testify about his feelings and the impact of the defamation upon his reputation leaves the court somewhat in the dark about these matters".[31][32]

In July 2012, the San Jose Mercury News published a story reporting that multiple people had been burned and hospitalized during one of Robbins' fire-walking events on July 19, 2012.

This story was picked up by other media outlets, including Fox News. These reports were later retracted as inaccurate.[33]

A similar corrective article was published by The Huffington Post.[34][35]

Celebrity status

Robbins had a minor role in the 2001 film Shallow Hal, hypnotising Jack Black's character and forcing him to view girls for their personality rather than their appearance.

He was lampooned in episode 22 of season 3 of Family Guy.[36]

In Men In Black, an array of screens at headquarters is monitoring aliens masquerading as humans. One of these screens shows Robbins.

In July 2010, NBC debuted Breakthrough with Tony Robbins, a reality show that followed Robbins as he helped the show’s participants face their personal challenges.[37][38]

NBC canceled the show, after airing two of the planned six episodes, due to low viewership of 2.8 million.[39]

In March 2012, the OWN Network picked the show up for another season beginning with the original first season set to rerun and thereafter leading directly into the new 2012 season.[40]

In April 2012, Robbins began cohosting Oprah's Lifeclass on the OWN Network.[41]

Personal life

In 1984, Robbins and former girlfriend Liz Acosta had a son, Jairek Robbins, who is also a personal empowerment trainer.[42]

In 1985, he married Rebecca "Becky" Jenkins, after meeting her at a seminar.[43][44][45]

Jenkins had three children from two former marriages whom Robbins adopted. Robbins and Jenkins filed for divorce 14 years later.[45]

Robbins married Bonnie "Sage" Humphrey, a phlebotomist and acupuncturist, in October 2001.

Robbins resides in Palm Beach, Florida.[46]
